Millenniata today announced its award winning M-DISC optical discs are now available in all Fry's Electronics retail stores and provide the only permanent storage option for consumers and businesses. All LG branded DVD or Blu-Ray optical drives bearing the M-DISC logo can write to M-DISC.

Fry's will sell M-DISC 5-packs and 10-packs at the following prices:

  • M-DISC 5-Pack: $19.99
  • M-DISC 10-Pack: $29.99

M-DISC provides permanent storage. Standard and archival-rated DVD and Blu-Ray discs, hard drives, and tape provide daily and short-term storage and backup, but will degrade over time – they do not provide long-term permanent storage.

“Many people have the misconception that their important digital files – memories and personal items – are permanent on standard DVD or Blu-Ray discs,” said Paul Brockbank, Millenniata CEO. “Only the M-DISC will allow today's digital files to be around many generations from now.”

LG branded optical drives engrave data onto an inorganic rock-like material of the M-DISC write layer. It can't fade or degrade over time. Other recordable DVDs use organic dyes to record data, a material that is known to fade and degrade.

“We are excited to offer our customers M-DISC,” said Dave Birt, Fry's Electronics director of computers. “The combination of M-DISC compatible LG optical drives with M-DISC will provide a truly permanent storage option for all of our customers' personal files at a very reasonable price.”

Hitachi-LG Data Storage, Inc. manufactures the LG branded M-DISC compatible optical drives in partnership with Millenniata. Only LG optical drives bearing the M-DISC logo can write to M-DISC, but M-DISC can be read with any DVD or Blu-Ray drive.
