Roku, Inc. today announced it is expanding its streaming player lineup with the addition of two new devices – the new Roku Premiere and the new Roku Premiere+. The Roku Premiere ($39.99 MSRP) and Roku Premiere+ ($49.99 MSRP) are simple to use and offer brilliant picture quality in HD, 4K Ultra HD or 4K HDR. The company also announced updates to its ultimate streaming player, the Roku Ultra which now features premium JBL headphones yet remains at the same price of $99.99 MSRP.

LG Electronics USA has launched the 2017 LG Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Player with high-dynamic range (HDR) compatibility.

HDMI Forum, Inc. today announced the upcoming release of Version 2.1 of the HDMI Specification. This latest HDMI Specification supports a range of Higher Video Resolutions and refresh rates including 8K60 and 4K120, Dynamic HDR, and increased bandwidth with a new 48G cable. Version 2.1 of the HDMI Specification is backward compatible with earlier versions of the Specification, and was developed by the HDMI Forum's Technical Working Group whose members represent some of the world's leading manufacturers of consumer electronics, personal computers, mobile devices, cables and components.

"This new release of the Specification offers a broad range of advanced features for enhancing the consumer entertainment experience, as well as providing robust solutions to the commercial AV sector," said Robert Blanchard of Sony Electronics, president of the HDMI Forum. "This is part of the HDMI Forum's continuing mission to develop specifications for the HDMI eco-system that meet the growing demand for compelling, high-performance and exciting features."

Panasonic has today announced two new Ultra HD Blu-ray Players, the DMP-UB400 and UB300. Ultra HD Blu-ray is the next-generation video disc standard that not only delivers HDR 4K-resolution pictures but also supports the BT.2020 set of standards – providing a significantly wider gamut of colours which offer richer, more vibrant displays. During its annual press briefing at CEDIA Expo today, Sony Electronics unveiled a new reference standard 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player which will be shipping next spring. The new ES Series model (UBP-X1000ES) offers full Custom Installation (CI) compatibility and incorporates a number of features and technologies that will make it the centerpiece of the most advanced home audio-video systems.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE) and Intel Corporation today announced that ULTRA, SPHE’s 4K movie streaming service, will debut on computers powered by 7th Gen Intel Core processors beginning Q1 in 2017.

Coinciding with the expanded availability of the service, ULTRA will add new features like 48 hour rentals and free 10 minute previews, allowing customers to experience a sample of any film on the service in full 4k resolution before buying.
