I couldn't find anyone who has one of theese and has posted a message on this forum lately.
What do you think about this drive?

Two months ago I bought ASUS 52x24x52x drive and now I nave probelms with reading discs! The computer store where I bougth it, agreed to change it for a now one but they don't have ASUS at the moment. They have Teac-s for about +10$. For the ASUS i would have to wait for 2-3 weeks!
I'm now thinking what to do. Any advices?

Koki.

Have a look at this thread: http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=9104. It looks like the TEAC is based on the ASUS drive.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, the TEAC seems to be manufactured by a company owned by ASUS. We have a review of this drive coming up very soon.

Now that TEAC has released 1.09 firmware, CD-W552E has become quite a decent drive.

Why is this? Does it has so many improvements from the 1.05?
It says:
Version: 1.09
-Servo and writing speed parameter are optimized
-Multi session writing performance and minimum writing speed
are improved

Version 1.05 has some bad writing qualities from what i've seen at reviews.
I hope the new firmware version rectefied it.

Ian, will this drive be reviewed further down the stretch?

Yeah, the review will be done very soon.

The 1.09 firmware helped the writing quality a lot. Unfortunately, its media requirements are still very high.
