True Dual 8x Drives

Postby aviationwiz on Sun Feb 01, 2004 12:44 am

I was in Best Buy today and I saw the following True 8x Dual Drives:

Pioneer A07
Memorex True 8x Dual
TDK 880N

Anyone know who makes the Memorex and TDK's? I found it intresting that they had 3 True 8x Dual drives. I'd bet the Memorex is the A07, as Memorex used the A06 previously, what about the TDK though?

OK, I just firgured it out. By comparing specs, I figured out that the TDK 880N is a ND-2500A, and the Memorex is a Pioneer 107. Neither drive is listed on BBY's website yet.

I told you Wiz, I was born there and lived there for my first ten years. Neat thing about being that young, I'd go out with my sled this time of year and ride all afternoon and never realizes how cold it must have been.

Wiz, tell the folks here, who haven't been to Fry's, what you thought of it.

It was freaking huge! They must have had every electronics item you can dream of! LOL. They must have had like 50 mobo's on display, 50 desktops on display, 80 phones on display (real usuable phones, not stupid plastic demo units) I was amazed.

Just figured a nice change of scenery to the red tail would be nice, considering I fly on them the most often.

BTW, Slim, have you EVER seen a Northwest Airlines plane in the past, oh, 10 years, LOL, they switched the name from Northwest Orient to Northwest Airlines a LOOOOOONNNNNNNGGGGGGG time ago. LOL.

It was a simultaneous test of our memories. :D

I first flew on it more than 50 years ago. It was NWA then, too. The Orient came later - didn't pass the test of time.

Used to live SE. Between Franklin and University, about to blocks this side of St. Paul. (This time of year that is between colder and coldest.)

Memorex has been known to sell a few rebadged Liteon LDW-811S drives. You're right about the TDK 880N, it is a ND-2500A.

Sam's Club had Pacific Digital's new 8x DVD writer yesterday. Going by the specs, it was an ND-2500. If I remember right, the price was like $150.

Ian, some people on another website are saying that the PD 8X DVDRW is either a Lite 811S or a BTC 1008im. If the serial number starts with a number then it is a Liteon. If it starts with a P then it is a BTC. the PDs at my Sam's Club start with a P.

It seems that there are NEC 2500s at Sam's also. They start with a 4 but the serial number is not all numbers like the Lite-on

The specs on the box specifically say that the drive can write to DVD+R and DVD-R at 8x. The Lite-On and BTC ones might be their older 8x/4x drive.

I also saw the new 8x PD drive at Office Max today. They wanted $199 for it. :o
