pioneer 107 hacked firmware

Postby wicked1 on Thu Feb 12, 2004 9:30 pm

Anyone else use this firmware? I just flashed my pioneer and am starting a 6x burn now. It allows 6x or 8x burning on any disc. Also region free and 12X rip speed. What brands have you tried with the best results?I am using HQ media at the moment. Oh yeah it allows 4x on any rewriteable disc.

The HQ media(LONGTEN10) came out fine at 6x. I dont have my dvdrom hooked up or else I would scan it but hey it reads fine in my xbox which is all that really matters anyway :D

I burnt a dvd with 4 gigs of mp3's on it and it is reading fine. I have NEVER had a problem with longten media in the pioneers. Thats one of the reasons I like the pioneer so well is that it burns these discs which are really cheap to ok quality. I would not call it good but like I said it reads and thats all that matter to me. Most discs are replaced after a month or two tops because the people that they go to dont take very good care of them. The plextor 708 flat refused to burn any of these discs. My Sony would burn them albeit at 2X. The pioneers (a06 and a07) both burn them at 4X no problem.I have not tried 8X yet. 6X came out good enough to be read.I used to buy the Samsung BeAll media becuase it was supposed to be really good quality but people just treat xbox discs like crap and I had to reburn them in a month or two and thats why I bought the pioneer to begin with for its known ability to burn cheap discs good.

am i correct in seeing that you could have burned that media at 8x?

if so id like to know if the media turns out ok, xbox, dvd player, whatever is fine

if so i really like that hacked firmware, and might pick up a A07 for myself

or would be nice if hacked firmware existed for nec2500a for the 8x dvd-r part, i know theres one for region and rip speed already, im using it

Dang wicked1, that's a 1.4MB image file you've got there! It's actually a .BMP with the extension .JPG

I highly recommend checking out Irfanview.

image was converted to true jpeg sorry about that one.
Hoxlund yes you can burn any disk at 6X or 8X. I burnt Dirty harry at 6X just a minute ago and it is playing on this Xbox in front of me. It is a Samsung stock xbox drive.I ran DVDInfos scan on the disc with it in my samsung combo drive and it read it all back no problem too. So far 4 discs at 6X and they all are working. Havent tried 8X yet. I still want to try the overclocking of RW media that it allows too. I dont have any Riteks as you asked either.

edit:Oh yeah I think its very acceptable to burn a full dvd in 10:47 especially when the disks are 59 cents a piece and work fine.

How many DVD burners have you gone through now anyway?

I've been getting some reports from contacts (I'm getting my drive sometime this week), which basically say:

Ritek G04: Fine 8x
Prodisc S03: Fine 8x
Princo 4x: Fine 6x, some batches OK with slight increase in errors at the end at 8x
LeadData 4x: Fine 8x
Optodisc 4x: Fine 6x
Postech 4x: Fine 8x
Ritek G03: Some reports saying OK at 4x!!!
MCC 2x: Fine 4x
Princo 1x: No go at 4x, OK 2x (but then we knew that already)
MBI 4x: OK 6x
AN31, AN35, Infosmart: OK 6x

Essentially any 4x media that works well at 4x should be satisfactory at 6x. Some will also work just fine at 8x.

Looks like Pioneer really do have a winner on their hands. I'll confirm some of this when I get my writer.

Now, if they could do the same for the +R media.........

Must resist, must not hit order button. Actually, I'm pretty much broke when it comes to $$ for computers, so it doesn't matter. What kind of Z-CLV does it do? 4-6-8? 4-8? 6-8? Anyone have a CD Speed Graph with the RITEKG04 media burning at 8x?

About the same as my findings.......

Sorted by Media code and not by brand (all is 4x DVD-R):

MCC01RG20: 8x OK!
TYG01: 8x OK!
PRINCO: Depends on the quality of your batch. From coaster to ok at 8x
RITEKG04: 8X OK! (some batches fails, but most seems ok)
CMC.MAG.AF1: Last 30% of the disc is unreadable at 8x
LEADDATA01: Last 10% of the disc is unreadable at 8x
INFOSMART01: 8X OK!
MXL RG02: Last 30% is unreadable at 8x
AN31: 8X OK! (depends on the quality of your batch)
AN32: 8X OK!
MCI4XG01: Fails to start writing
VANGUARD: Fails while writing
VDSPMSAB01: Fails while writing
VDSPSAB01: Fails while writing
dvsn: Fails to start writing
OPTODISCK001: The part that is written at 8x is unreadable
GSC001: The last 5% is unreadable
Disc with no ID: The last 40% is unreadable

Yeah those results do tally OC.

I think the batch does matter on a lot of media types. For example there are some CMC discs out there that'll work fine at 8x.

BTW, I've used a few Vanguard batches and NONE of them will work at even 4x correctly. Have you had any more joy?

hell yeah, G04's at 8x, the ones that don't work are probably batches that are sold under fradulant branded G04

depending on how my car stereo spending goes, ill probably buy the Pioneer this friday, on payday

Thanks OC-Freak! That list is very useful and informative!

However, there are two types of DVD-Rs made by Maxell with their MXL RG02 code. The first is the regular 4x DVD-R media available, and the second is the Maxell 4x DVD-R "Plus Series" ....leave it to Maxell to make a DVD-R and put it in their "Plus Series" .... but supposedly the plus series media is much higher quality and may even support 8x recording without any problems. As I have been given two sample pieces of it, I will test this after I install the hacked firmware :D

Or...maybe it's just the Ritek C grade media? Or Grade D, or as low as they grade it.

I've only ever heard them admit to 'B' Grade... but as I've found out, this was probably really 'C' grade media! I'd love to get some European discs in to compare their quality against North American media!

With the official firmware NO 4x discs may be writtin at 8x - only 8x discs works at 8x.

With the hacked firmware you may write -R discs at 8x, but still not 4x +R at 8x.....so you're locked to 4x on those ricohjpn disc.
