Does anyone know who makes the Norcent 8x DWD-840 Dvd Writer?

it's unreliable to judge from a picture, but this picture of the Norcent DWD-840

looks like a LiteOn to me.

Yeah, norcent was shipping Lite-On 811S drives. That was a few months ago though. I'm not sure if they still are.

Thanks dodecahedron and Ian for your answers.

I thought it might be a Lite on because of the description, but I wasn't sure. It says it uses Smart-X and Smartburn. Isn't that what the Lite On uses? Does anyone else use those features?

I was hoping it was a Nec 2500a, but I didn't have much hope it was.

Does anyone know if they ship real Lite On drives that you can use the Lite On firmware with or do they change the id string so you can't use the Lite On firmware?

if it says SMART-X AND SMART-Burn, it's definitely a Lite-On.
those are Lite-On trademark technologies.
