A great K-Probe scan, especially for dolphinus_rex

Postby OC-Freak on Sun Feb 22, 2004 8:39 am

From the Pioneer fw 1.10 thread:

dolphinius_rex wrote:I'd like to see any drive, with any media meet or beat that test.

Any drive, any media? okay.

More information:
This disc is written at 8x!!!!!
The disc is a Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD+R.
Scanned at 4x speed (scanning at 1x like dolphinus_rex would for sure give better results).

PI SUM1:

PI SUM8:

So now everyone feel free to beat this scan with any 8x written disc with any writer!!!

And feel free to guess which writer I used to write this disc at 8x with ;)

ouch! Looks like I'll have to wait until the hacked firmware comes out to see how the Mitsubishi's burn at 8x.

Come on - make a wild guess at least.

Thank God! I thought you were going to tell me it was that Plextor 708a

Also, after reading through my post again, I'd like to apoligise for sounding like an ass, that wasn't my intention. Sorry.

No problem you did not really offend me ;)

Everyone have their opinions. The best way to scan in my opinion is at 1x SUM8 PI and SUM1 PO.

But this requires near 2hrs per disc (1 scan for PI at 8ECC sum and 1 scan for PO at 1ECC sum - both at 1x speed)

But this is to time consuming for me.

so it seems that you and dolphinius_rex do agree about the best testing methodology! that's the same way he did those scans he posted in the Pioneer 107/A07 1.10 thread.

Yes!! entirely too time consuming!!! I'm going to buy another system to dedicate to the task in a couple months :o

Luckily with the new K-Probe, we will always know who is using what Sum ECC value :D

One thing I have to say... these scans do *NOT* coincide with the data provided in the latest C't magazine info posted by rdgrimes. Is it a firmware thing? or media variation? or maybe we are just really REALLY wrong? (I'm betting on the first one)

I guess I did make the right choice.
I've been burning at 8x with no problems, and no coasters (yet)

OC-Freak please make some K-probe scans of RiTEKG04 or TYG01 media burned with NU/QSI DDW-81@DDW-082 ( dual F/W )

And please recommend which DVDwriter to get NU-DDW081 or PioDVR-107 ?
Thanks in advance Image

Writing at 2x is to boring so I've not tried the dual firmware much yet (Yes it supports 2x DVD-R/RW only).

No drives I've had is able to beat the NU DDW-081 for DVD+R writing quality - so if you're mainly after DVD+R/RW the NU DDW-081 is a good choice.

Thank You OC

I've made my choice : retail v. NU DDW-081 + smth like 25 TY 4x DVD+R (or 50 RiDATA 4x DVD+R ) for the price of OEM PioDVR-107 :P
