Several Issues regarding playing backups and watching on WMP

Postby tr_horn on Sat Apr 24, 2004 11:00 pm

Hey - sometime lurker and 2nd time poster :).

I have a Nu-Tech 082 (firmware 372) in an enclosure linked via USB 2.0 to my computer running XP.

The first couple backups I made of my disks worked fine on my standalone DVD player (a Sony DVPS 7700). I used the standard the DVD Decrypter, DVD Shrink/Nero OEM. I could at that time also play back my discs on WMP on my computer. I now have several problems.

- The last couple of disks I have backed up don't get recognized by my standalone player (I'm burning DVD-Rs)
- WMP only plays back sound on the discs - no video. I thought this may be a codec problem but I'm not sure what to check and I could play things fine a couple of days ago.;
- Nero Showtime keeps on telling me another app is using the DVD whenever I try to get it to play anything.
- I can however, still burn fine with DVD Shrink (bought a $40 DVD player to test out the disks my Sony could not play and it plays fine).
- I have tried a system restore to the point of original installation for the Nere OEM to no avail.

Anyone have any ideas?

Did you upgrade the firmware recently?

Yes - I did - just flashed to b372 several days ago. I guess you're suggesting a rollback to b370?

That would be my advice but it might not work.Flashing a drive in an enclosure isn't advised,I would connect it to an IDE cable if possible and turn off DMA.
Did you encounter an error when flashing to b372?

Thanks so much for the suggestion - thankfully I did not read your second reply prior to flashing back :wink:.

Everything is OK in the world again - at least in terms of my standalone player. I think this is why Nu may have pulled the B372 off their website. I'm backed down to B370.

BTW - I have not had any problems flashing back or forth in an enclosure, although, given the way different drives and enclosures behave, I can definitely see your point.

Thanks again for the help!
