HP 8x DVD+Rs

Does anyone know who makes those HP discs? Saw them at TigerDirect and was thinking about trying out a pack of ten. I can't seem to find 8x media in Winnipeg.

I'd bet on Ritek.

They're probably CMC. HP seems to be using CMC for everything these days.

5pk i bought @ walmart....3usd cheaper than staples....i expected it to be either philips or cmc mag, but it was mmc003 rev00 (mitsubitshi chemical..did i spell right? :) )

i was suprised & my sister's friend asked me to install her hp 8x drive to the external enclosure & there was 8x hp +r & 4x +rw were included even though the box said no media. that disk was mmc003 rev00....hp found that cmc mag is not good enough to protect its reputation perhaps.

Are they cheaper than Verbatim's 8x discs?

Not sure how much Verbatim's are, but these are $2 a disc:

Dumb question, but will these do 12x in the 712?

I just found a 25 spindle of 8x Optodisc DVD+Rs for $48.95 at a local retail store. Has anyone ever burned any of these discs. I remember using their 2x discs a while ago but haven't used any of this brand in a while. Has the quality improved?

Yes their quality has improved, but their 8x DVD+Rs are still a little rough around the edges. What drive are you using them on, and where did you buy them? Just curious

HP 8x DVD+Rs are almost certainly made by CMC... why? because HP signed a contract with CMC giving CMC the rights to their brand. If there is an MCC code on an HP disc, I'm still guessing it was made by CMC

I'm using a Liteon 812S and I saw them on Computer Boulevard's website. It's a store here in Winnipeg. I didn't bother to buy them although the price was ok I decided to try out the 8x HPs just to see how they are more as an experiment than anything else. It'll take a few months well before I see any Verbatim 8x in Winnipeg. Make that in about a year not a few months, Winnipeg isn't exactly on the cutting edge of tehcnology when it comes to stocking new products. By the way are there any good online sites in BC, Montreal or Toronto you could recommend?

Speaking of Walmart and Best Buy I can't understand why the products you find in the US aren't sold in the Best Buy and Walmart stores in Canada. I was told by a salesman at Best Buy that the reason for the difference in products is because some of the distributors refuse to ship certain products to Canada. Don't know if this is true but if it is it seems strange.

If you PM me their webpage, I'll do my best to fix their pricing for you in the future

Right now for 8x DVD+Rs your best bets are tigerdirect.ca, although I don't trust tigerdirect.ca much from a lot of bad reviews from other Canadians... amd the other is blankmedia.ca. In the near future this will change quite a bit, but for now they are probably the best. Check back with me in 2-3 weeksthough, and this will probably have changed

Well I burned one of the discs at 8x and it seemed to burn ok to me. I did a KProbe test don't have a clue what it means.
If someone can remind me how to paste the image of the KProbe jpeg I will.

Were they made in Taiwan or Singapore?

I'm wondering the same as rex, the Verbatim 10 packs are made in Taiwan (CMC) but the 3 packs are made in Singapore (MCC), well, at least at my local Micro Center, but I think it's the same. That for the 8x DVD+R media.

Actually, the reason I'm asking is because I know CMC has the contract for HP media, and if MCC is making it now, it would mean a more significant partnership/agreement between the two companies then I expected. Also, it would make HP media a low harder to ignore :o

They're made in Singapore. The one I burned played fine in my Norcent but then everything does in that player. The 2 Yamahas I have play anything as well.

Now here is where the web gets tangled. This a 10 pack in slim cases and the outside platic wrapper says Made in Taiwan but the back of the individual cases says Made in Singapore Q2122-60000. The outside pack wrapper says HP DVD+R 8x 10PK (DR00032) 37668 02012 7 Made In Taiwan.

The outer most packaging is the one that is required by law to be accurate... still, very odd!

The Double Layer Solutions Pack (with the 8 8x DVD+R, 1 DVD+R DL, and 1 DVD+RW media) says "Made in Singapore and Taiwan" on the outside.

Inside, the DVD+R and DVD+R DL media packaging says "Made in Singapore" while the DVD+RW media packaging says "Made in Taiwan".

The DVD+R media is identified as "MCC-003-000"

i am just guessing but it seems that cmc is now making with mcc code for 8x +r disks & cmc is also making disks for mcc, perhaps.

my theory is this; clasybuster burnt mcc003 rev00 @ 12x using 712a, but i and ian could not. my guess is that the mcc003 rev00 made by cmc has different write strategy from mcc made mcc003 rev00; claybuster got mcc made mcc003 rev00 and i & ian got cmc made mcc003 rev00

hopfully, cmc mag improved its quality of disks a lot because cmc really needs it; perhaps mcc made some money by transfering or selling its stomping technology or/and machines to cmc mag.
