It ain't pretty folks, not by a long shot.... unless all you want to do is burn dual layer media... then it's great :o

Not too surprising considering what we've already seen of the A08.

pio really need to work on their dvd drives....originally they planned to get the 8x dl with 4x -r dl but suddenly their plan has been changed. late sept to early nov, 16x a09 was scheduled a couple months ago.

i guess 108 is an intrim drive to keep the market share until early nov for a09 with dl -r.....perhaps dl -r will not come out at all

Link isn't working right now (looks like the whole site is down), can anyone do a quick summary of what's wrong with the drive?

Site's working for me...

Drive doesn't look pretty. I'd wait for what the 108 should have been, which is what the 109 hopefully will be.

Hello!

I´m a little disappointed about the writing-quality, it´s not so good like the 107. Hope that Pioneer will bring new FW for better quality.
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

I suppose Pioneer could put out a CD-Writer and claim that it had 16X DVDR writing capabilities and many people would still buy it due to the Pioneer brand name.
Let's hope they can improve this drive ASAP with a new firmware.

Good that I didn't wait for this drive, got a retail Benq DW822A for US $50 in the meantime, so far excellent writing quality on DVD+R media! :P

Gosh darnit'! Didn't it seem that this drive went from rumor to shelve, in record time? I hope results from the NEC 3500 are better.

It's not out yet. cdrinfo's is an engineering sample.

I wonder who's ass they kissed at ASUS to get that. My contacts at ASUS USA can't even get one yet.

It's also not uncommon for Europe to get things first either, their location helps a lot with that.

It's not out yet? I got semi-flammed for posting a site that carried it. I guess I never looked to see if they where located in Europe. If it is a sample doesn't that mean there is still some tweaking to be done?

Probably very little if any. It had the 1.04 firmware so its probably a very good indicator of what to expect from the final, retail version.

Any predictions on the NEC 3500? I thought the've done a nice job working out the kinks on the NEC 2510, in fairly short order considering the usual lapse in time to improve firmware.
I don't want to start an argument but, if you had to buy a Dual layer, 16X today, what would it be?

I'd also consider BenQ DW1600 as it should be firmware upgradable (officially, for free) to DW1620.

As for problems accessing cdr-info, it is due to their cookie handling.

Try deleting all and every cookie you have to cdrinfo.com, cdr-info.com, etc.

It will then work again in Mozilla/firefox.

In this thread, Jamos got a Pioneer Dvr-108, and he says he has great burns. If he gets great burns, then what's up with cdrinfo review?

The cdrinfo guys
a) didn't have to pay for the drive
b) included PI/PO tests using the Plextor 712

The guy on cdfreaks
a) had to pay the drive
b) doesn't show PI/PO scans

Any more questions? ....
