Simulate does not work...Nero bug?

Postby Scandy on Wed Jan 26, 2005 12:51 pm

I have Nero 6.6.0.5. When using Nero Express to burn video files that are on my hard drive, when I check "Simulation", the program tells me to insert a DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, or DVD+R9 disk. When I insert a blank DVD+R disk, Nero tells me that "the test cannot continue with this type of disk". When I insert a disk that already has something recorded on it Nero tells me to insert a blank disk. What other kind of disk is Nero looking for?

Can any else confirm that this is another Nero bug, or am I not using Simulate properly?

It's been a while since I tried to do simulation for DVD Media, but if I remeber correctly there is a reason why we no longer support Simulation to DVD media. If my memory is not faulty, and we do not support this for DVD Media any longer, I will ask that they gray this option out whenever DVD is selected, so that users can not even select the option so as to avoid confusion.

I do know that in Nero Burning ROM, the simulation option is grayed out when it detects DVD media in the recorder. However, if you do not have any media in the recorder, and you select Data DVD, it does offer Simulation again, till you insert the DVD Media that is. :-?

I will get this explanation from our Engineers in Germany, and post it here.

In my case, Simulation can be selected regardless of whether or not a disk is in the drive.

Thanks for trying to find the answer!

You can only simulate on -R (minus format)!

Wow! If simulate only works for -R disks, this must be a bug!

It will be interesting to see what the Engineers in Germany have to say about this.

Hi Scandy,

The response is: "Simulation is allowed on some DVD+RW media for some recorders and on DVD-R always".

So this is not a bug but normal operation.

CCampbell, thanks a lot for the reply!

Why in the world does Nero allow Simulation on -R media but not on +R media? :-? I guess that this is not a bug if they designed it that way, but it does not make much sense to me.

From what I gather, it's not a limitation we place on the drive with our software, but in what the drive can support. Which is why some drives will also work with DVD+RW media, and others will not. But all drives support the DVD-R media.
