It turns up that DirectCD's latest update on the Roxio site is a full version.
You can install it on any system, regardless if it has ever had DirectCD or any Roxio/Adaptec software on it or not!
No serial number required or anything.

I don't know if its a gift or a mistake, get it while it's there:

enjoy  and Happy Christmas

Thanks for the info on the full install.
I just installed XP Pro on my machine and of course found out my CD Creator 4.0 was not compatible. I just got it not too long ago so of course I was miffed that Roxio wanted to charge me for a full version of 5.01 just so it would work for XP.
Question: I downloaded their 5.01 Basic Trial version that is supposed to run 90 days before requiring a purchase. Is this the same file with the 90 day limit? Should I remove that program and try to install the one you found?
It sure would be nice if software guys would offer upgrades at a lower cost to previous customers, especially if they JUST bought something very recently.

Great, I installed EZCD 5 just to use DirectCD, it has more features than Ahead's InCD.

this is a VERY old topic friend - of course it doesn't work.

But don't despair, your life will be nicer without any packet writing software installed on your system. This is of course my own opinion, reached after a couple of years of trying them all.

so what's the best alternative to using packet writing software?
i'd like the ability to update and delete files on the fly from a cdrw. also, i notice there is a UDF burnig wizard in Nero without using DirectCD or InCD... how does that work without formatting to UDF first?

One simple option is to allocate a special folder on the hdd, use it for those things you would with the packet writer, and every time it becomes about 600MB, burn it.

I don't know what's the Nero udf wizard you mention, might be a dvd thing, that's udf too, but other sort.

Huh?

I also got the messge about it having a known install problem with this version of windows...

I chose to install it anyway.

It still works good. I only wanted EZ CD 4 for the Jewel Case Creator.
I'm currently running:

EZ CD 4
Win on CD 5 PE
Direct CD (from the Win On CD 5 intall)
Nero
Clone CD

http://cequadrat.com/driver/dcd_upd/DCD51UP.exe is Dimitri's link from above.

it still works for downloading. I haevn't tried to install it, as I already have it installed with Win On CD 5 PE.

i would like to know too.

however, CeQuadrat has on their website a newer update for DirectCD - 5.3.2 last time i checked (maybe they already have 5.3.4?) so i guess no point in using 5.1

Yes, maybe, but it may be easier to install the single DCD file, then update it rather that doing a custom install from the EZCD5 Plat. CD,..?
just want to know if it works.

the post dimitri originally wrote - this was a very long time ago. there was a link to a file on the website that was actually a DirectCD install file, so you could get DCD for free and install it.

they have long since "fixed" that.

dimitri has edited his post. the file linked to now is called DCD51UP.exe, it is (presumably) an updater, not an installer. i don't think you can install DCD from it, only update an existing one. and like i said what's the point of updating to DCD 5.1?
