Verbatim 52x24x52 Is it a Lite-On?

Postby ngri714 on Thu Jan 02, 2003 12:21 am

Just bought a 52x24x52 at OM. Read the Verbatims were rebadged Lite-Ons. Serial is all numbers and the part # is VBT522452A. Also can it be reflashed to a Lite-On? any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Does it have "Smart Burn" or "Smart X" on the box.

If it does, then it's a Lite On.

Verbatium 52x24x52

Postby ngri714 on Thu Jan 02, 2003 12:42 am

None of any type listed, but it looks like my Lite-On 48x12x48 and 24x10x40. Firmware is 68s1. Can I flash the firmware to Lite-On like I did with my Memorex 48X?

Firmware 68s1 doesn't sound like a Lite-On firmware. The drive is probably made by someone else.

Sure it does, 6S08 is the newest for the LTR-52246S If you could backup and send me your current firmware I'd appreciate it!

Oh cools then. Dave knows more about Lite-On firmware than I ever will, so thanks for helping us out there.

Verbatim to Lite-On

Postby ngri714 on Sat Jan 04, 2003 1:42 am

:D Dave you are the man! The flash you sent worked great. My computer now sees my burner as a Lite-On. Thanks a lot.
I am considering a purchase of a Verbatim 48x12x48 for a gift. Can it be flashed to a Lite-On also?
Thanks again,
Robert

No problem, I'm pretty proud of that flasher :) Pass it around if you find anyone else who needs it, but if they have a firmware other than the one you sent me, please back it up and send it! The 48x12x48 can most likely be flashed to a Lite-ON, but it is probably not overclockable to 52x24x52.

Verbatim 48x12x48 drives NOT Lite-Ons

Postby MCKComputerWorks on Sun Jan 05, 2003 2:42 am

Just an FYI: I purchased a couple of the 48x12x48 Verbatims @ OfficeMax tonight, as they are on sale from 1/5 to 1/11. I was hoping that they would be the Lite-ons, but alas, they weren't. They are those butt-ass ugly Benq drives, but they are 48x16x48. Did I return them to OfficeMax? You bet!

From what I can tell, the serial numbers on the box stickers all begin with "99" and they're about 20 digits long, if they are the Benq drives...hope this helps!
