CDRLabs has put together a brief review of Hitachi's latest low-power hard drive, the Deskstar 5K3000. Along with a high-speed SATA 6Gb/s interface, the drive features Hitachi's CoolSpin technology which uses a motor speed optimized to provide an ideal balance of performance, power utilization and acoustics. When combined with Hitachi's other power management techniques, CoolSpin technology delivers up to 29 percent lower power and 14 percent quieter acoustics than the Deskstar 7K3000.

Today, CDRLabs brings you a review of LG's new two-bay network storage device, the N2A2. While lacking a built in DVD or Blu-ray writer, this consumer oriented NAS makes up for it by offering 2TB of storage, a versatile RAID system and a long list of features including USB device backup, Apple Time Machine support, Torrent file sharing and a built in DLNA media server.

CDRLabs has taken an in depth look at Plextor's new 128GB solid state drive, the PX-128M2S. Equipped with Marvell's 88SS9174 controller chip and a high-speed SATA 6Gb/s interface, the PX-128M2S is capable of delivering up to 420MB/s sequential read and 210MB/s sequential write speeds. Plextor's new SSD also feature support for the Windows 7 TRIM command, dynamic wear leveling and the company's own Instant Restore technology which overcomes the problem of performance degradation.

CDRLabs kicks off the week with a review of Sony's new 12x Blu-ray Disc writer, the BWU-500S. Offering some of the fastest BD reading and writing speeds available, the BWU-500S is capable of 12x BD-R, 8x BD-R DL, 6x BD-R LTH and 2x BD-RE writing speeds and a maximum BD-ROM read speed of 8x. The drive also includes features like an 8MB buffe, Power-Burn buffer underrun protection and CyberLink's Media Suite 8 which includes software capable of playing back Blu-ray movies in 3D.

CDRLabs has taken a long overdue look at the ASUS TS mini home server. Based on the Windows Home Server platform, the TS mini is powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor and is available with up to 2GB of DDR2 memory. The server has room for two internal 3.5" hard drives and sports six USB 2.0 ports as well as two eSATA ports for further expansion. Like other Windows Home Servers, the TS mini is capable of backing up as many as 10 computers and  supports features like folder duplication, remote access and media streaming. ASUS has added to these capabilities by including add-ins for ASWM, Xtor Manager and their WebStorage service.

Today, CDRLabs brings you a review of Super Talent's latest USB 3.0 flash drive, the Express DUO. Available in capacities ranging from 8GB up to 32GB, the Express DUO offers USB 3.0 performance at a USB 2.0 price. When plugged into a USB 3.0 port, the drive is capable of reading at 67 MB/s and writing at speeds up to 25 MB/s. The Express DUO is also backwards compatible with USB 2.0 and is powered completely off a computer's USB bus.

CDRLabs has put together a brief review of SanDisk's Cruzer Blade USB flash drive.  Available in capacities ranging from 2GB up to 16GB, the Cruzer Blade is about the size of a standard size paper clip and weighs approximately the same as a penny. With its tiny footprint, the drive fits easily on a keychain, giving users the ability to take their favorite music, photos, videos and documents where ever they go.

CDRLabs has put together a brief review of RAIDON's ST1000 series of internal drive modules. The ST1000-2-S2C and ST1000-2-U5C fit into a standard 5.25" drive bay and feature a hot swappable tray for a 3.5" hard drive as well as a mounting point for a 2.5" hard drive or SSD. This design allows you to install your operating system onto the 2.5" drive and save your data onto the 3.5" drive, which can then be removed from the computer and taken with you or swapped out for another one.
