Cant read CD-ROMS

Postby steamingpile on Wed Nov 05, 2003 1:05 am

Hey people read through most of your posts and they are very informative, now I have a problem I hope you can help me with.

My CD-ROM will not read any CDs, music or data, none, nada, zip.
BIOS recognizes it and I have an icon, but when I click on it it says to:

Please insert a disk into drive D:.

I replaced my HD recently but I dont think that is it because I loaded most of my software using this drive(after recovery-F10, its an HP).
I called support and they told me I needed the recovery CDs from HP. Thats might seem like good info, but what good will they do me if my drive will not play anything put in it? I am stumped, it started this the day after my recovery and I have tried everything, nothing seems to work.
Anybody got any ideas?

BTW, the drive is LG CD-ROM CRD_8485B

Could be a cable that has barely come loose, a ASPI driver or other driver problem, even a conflict with burning software that doesn't play well with others.
You might want to try it in another working box to verify it's still OK if none of these ideas helps. It could be a lot of things cuasing the problem.
