Shipping DVD burner to France? Should I stick with US?

Postby VEFF on Sat Apr 03, 2004 9:25 am

I often get potential bidders from abroad - Italy for my integrated amp,
Canada for several other items (including one PX-708A), now France for the 2nd PX-708A.

Has anyone here shipped to France?
Is it a hassle? I know customs duties will once again come into play.

I do state up front in my auctions "US-only", but I suppose people feel it can't hurt to ask me.

Shipping to any country other than Canada is a pain in the butt. Not to mention, you have to wonder if its really worth it considering the amount of money it takes to ship the stuff over there.

I ship to a bunch of countries and dont mind as long as they are willing to pay for the shipping fees. Its only a few more things to fill out.I had a guy from australia buy one of my salt water protein skimmers and they are not small. almost 4 ft long and 2 1/2 ft wide weighing around 30 lbs. It cost him almost $100 to ship but it was an item he couldnt get in his country.

Ian's right, shipping anything other than a letter to a country other than the US or Canda is a pain, don't bother with it.

for saltwater aquariums. It skims the water pulling out undissolved wastes before they get a chance to break down therby lowering ammonia and nitrite levels drastically.I had it on my 150 gallon saltwater tank.I switched to a different setup. I am a fish and gun nut :) I have 5 aquariums ranging from 29 gallons to 150 gallons. I have used my digital camera to take more pictures of my fish than anything else. That wasnt my intention when I bought it but hey.

If you do ship out of the country, make sure the buyer purchases insurance.

Thanks for all the replies.
I am going to stick with the US for now; got enough things going on at the moment, that I don't need to complicate it with International shipping on a relatively small item.

If I were selling an expensive item, and could get a lot more by selling it to someone in another country where buyers are willing to pay substantially more, then I would probably do it.

Too little too late, but you know what I'm going to say. :) Basically, I never shy away from shipping overseas with, you guessed it, the USPS! If the buyer is willing to pay the increased shipping charges, then what have you got to lose? You fill out the same customs form for France as you would if you shipped an item to Canada.

exactly my thoughts. I always use USPS for overseas. I posted a few comments up that it isnt a big deal at all just an extra piece of paper.Never used UPS or FEDEX for overseas so there I cant comment.

Damn, wicked, I just recently became a fish nut, too.

Started out small, a 2.5 gallon at home and a 10 gallon at work.

Thanks Wizard and wicked1.

I figured that it didn't make sense to ship abroad to get a slightly higher bid (winning bid is only one increment above second highest bid, unless you get a two-way battle between the person in France and the next highest bidder).
If it had been something pricey (collectible, antique), it might have made sense, but the PX-708A is very popular and I knew there would be no shortage of interest.

The item got 28 bids and ended at a price I was satisfied with, even if it was $5 less than my other PX-708A (7 bids and same reserve, but 1st bidder hit the reserve, so there were less total bids required...).
