What was Pioneer thinking

What was that?

What was Pioneer thinking

Postby Gooberslot on Mon Jul 12, 2004 3:12 pm

This may actually belong in the DVD section but it is a rant so here goes.

Why did Pioneer stick vents in both the front and the back of the their 107d drives? They basically turned it into a windtunnel sucking in dust and as we all know dust is not a good thing for optical drives. In fact, if you search around you can find people who's drives have stopped working right due to dust build up. It's a really stupid design decision that they seem to have partly corrected with their new models. Nec and LG have it right, no vents at all since on modern drives they shouldn't be needed. Nec even advertises their anti-dust seal or something like that.

I think that design is a carry over from when their drives had fans in the back. The front vents pulled in cool air.. and of course dust.

But drives haven't had fans since before 4x cdr's. There's simply no excuse they'd still be doing the same thing. No modern drive should get that hot and if it is then it's poorly designed.

actually my 16x10x40x plextor had a fan on the back of it

so if vents on the front pulls in dust, does that make my computer a dust factory?

Well.....hox,the drive will eventually suck dust in small amounts and then you will eventually have the case with a little dust, when the drive is filled and spills the extra in the box.
