However the answer about codes seems to be more complicated I have a very good theory what's really going on. However at this point it's still partially unconfirmed.

Hmm I have some doubts since it would mean Prodisc lost/looses a very big customer.

Well, I'm only speaking about the media sold by Prodisc for retail/wholesale on the market. What they OEM for people is completely different. However, I would be very surprised if this information prooved to be incorrect, since the source is quite good in this case (other wise I wouldn't have posted it like this).

Some people find the MCC 02RG20 code works really well, some people think it's the worst of the 4. Personally, I just don't like Prodisc, and have found the variations in their quality to be too big to warrant serious use.

But I can tell you this:

Prodisc has 4 8x DVD-R codes currently. PRODISCS04, PRODISCF01, MCC 02RG20, and FUJIFILM03. Of the 4, I think PRODISCS04 works the best.

Is that Prodisc, too? It´s a Verbatim DVD-R 4x

A bit off the subject but I've noticed that the 716A drive is able to read "unfinalized" discs compared with other writers.

I can't tell from MID code... CMC, MCC, MBIL, and Prodisc all use the same MID code for Verbatim media

Anyone has problem with the latest firmware 1.04?

I got a big problem. After I upgraded my Plextor 716 to 1.04, it simply didn't recognise any disc. Or I should say when I used Nero to burn, it failed. When I used DVD decrytor, it didn't recognise the disc and I couldn't started..... Very annoying.....

Did you reboot the computer after you updated the firmware?

If so then flash it again then reboot.
