That's like only $20 off for Nero 6 upgraders. Hmmm...............

I recall that 2 1/2 years ago when 6 came out that a lot of folks were grumbling about the similarly poor deal for those upgrading from 5.

Well, within the last half year buy.com and Fry's, IIRC, have had Nero 6 deals @ $20, AMIRs. Guess that I'll wait 2 years. [-o<

Yeah, it's pretty common with new burning software that within the first few weeks of release they do a massive ad blitz with tons of rebates... EMC7 and 7.5 was down to $20-$30 a couple times right after they went on sale, Nero6 went to $19.99 on and off (after rebates)...

Just keep your eyes open... IMHO very few CD/DVD burning apps really add enough truly new stuff to justify paying full price over again. (and I refuse to pay $50 for a glorified bugfix, not that I am saying that's what Nero 7 is... maybe other apps)

I still wish a new app would burn DVDs as reliably and absolutely standards-compliant as RecordNow Max/DX 4.6... has the UDF mastering in Nero 7 been improved?

Nah, now it's just overpriced bloatware.

As mentioned, bit disappointed with the promotion for existing customers. Given the competitive situation these days, adding more features that bog systems down and add very little value doesn't cut it, nor does jacking up the price.

Craig, other thing worth mentioning (marketing consultant in me coming out) is that your launch strategy is ass backwards. Generally a good idea to launch to exisitng customers first. Otherwise you're devaluing customer loyalty. Then again marketing has been one of the greatest areas of incompetence at Nero.

Hi Everyone,

Well, I'm not a sales person, but I can understand your views. :-)

However, when you consider the competition, for Example Roxio, who charges the full price for each upgrade every 3 to 6 months, we are very competitive.

Roxio came out with Creator 7.0 and charged the full $99 price, and then came out with 7.5 3 to 6 months later and again charged the full $99 price for updating. And now they are coming out with Creator 8.0 and again have a full $99 price.

And with Sonic, they also charge a full price. But begining of this year, they came out with a new Retail build and when I upgraded for Full price again, they actually Removed some features that I had in my older Retail build. Instead of giving me added features, they took away some features. That really pissed me of, as a consumer. :-)

With Nero, we come out with what we consider a Major build about every 1 to 2 years and only charge for an upgrade for Major build releases. When we came out with Nero 6.5, which had quite a few added featuers such as Nero MediaHome, SoundTrax, etc... we did not charge Nero 6.0 users to upgrade, we gave it away for free. We'll do the same for Nero 7. We have a 'Lot' of new features and some new programs we still plan on adding to Nero 7 in the coming months. And we are not likely to come out with Nero 8 for at least 1 year, if not two. And you can bet there are going to be a lot of new featuers and possible new programs that we will be adding to the bundle, and this will of course be free for existing Nero 7 users.

So, though I am not a sales person, from an end user point of view I do not see any competitor offering anything even close to this to their customer. We understand that we have to add value to our products for existing customers, without gouging them for money each time. Others seem to have a differe view on this.

If you do not see Nero 7 is worth the $49.99 cost to upgrade, then hold off till it does become worth it. I promise you it will. It's still only in it's infancy and it will continue to grow. :-)

Regards,

Craig

I will agree that Nero has a much longer lifespan, and I was very happy that the 6.0->6.6 upgrade was free as that was major. (IMHO, for what I use it for, bigger than the 6.6-7.0 jump)

But Roxio does offer upgrade pricing, they were offering a $29.99 upgrade for 7.0 users to download 7.5, and normally they offer a $30ish rebate on major version jumps so upgraders pay $69.99 (unless Fry's/BB/etc has an additional deal which they almost always do, at least for a while)

I am glad to see there will be a $49 upgrade price for Nero. While still a bit high for my perceived ideas of what this upgrade provides, it's a much better number than $69. If Nero 7's UDF mastering was as rock solid as RecordNow DX/Max 4.6's, I'd buy it in a heartbeat; I know I'm in the minority but more features excite me less than doing the core CD/DVD burning absolutely 100% correctly. :)

Sorry that I'm late, but I was over here.

Well, I've had a devil of a time with using NeroVision to edit commercials out of captured TV. I don't know why but I just can't make it work, even with the FM and using scene detect.

I've been using Pinnacle Studio 9 to edit the file, that is very user friendly. But then it wants to compress the edited file prior to burning on a DL DVD, when it isn't necessary. So I have PS make an *.mpg of the edits and then burn with Nero, but the first few minutes of audio got lost, probably in PS.

So I just can't find one good app to do it all. Maybe I'll trial basis Nero 7 and if its NVE editing has been made intuitive and user friendly, I'll go for the upgrade.

Believe me, I've made over half dozen serious attempts to make a go of NVE.

Oh, PS also has a very good scene detect algorithm which requires no user inputs whatsoever, but it always isolates the scene where the commercials start and the first after the end of the commercial. Then deleting the commercial is just a matter of multiple selection on the scenes and clicking on the garbage can icon.

10-4?
