burning speed for audio cds

Postby sonicman on Sat Oct 22, 2005 9:16 am

hi there,

is it true that its better to write audio cds at the lower speed possible, regarding jitter & better burn??

till know with my old plextor i was writing at X4 all my audio cds & i was pretty happy with the results. but know my new dvdr NEC nd3540 the lower cd writing speed it has is X8.

is this a serious problem for writing quality audio cds? should i try to find a dvdr with a X4 cd writing speed?

any advice will be really appreciated!!

why don't you try one at 8x and see how you like the result ?

it is getting more and more difficult to find drives that burn very slowly.

no drive built within the last 2 years is going to burn cds at 4x by default you'll have to tell the software program before you start burning to burn that slow

i usually do my audio cds at 16x in my plextor 716 drive with TY media

I burn my audio CDs at 8X using TY media and my Lite-On LDW-851S DVD burner, so that I have a better chance of them playing in my car CD player. I don't label them with label makers either anymore. All this is per advice in this forum. 8) I'm sure I could burn them at 16X without any problems, but I'll just stick with 8X for audio CDs for now. Based on this, I would have to say to not worry about burning at 8X on your NEC. :D

I burn my audio CD's at 32x or higher and have never had compatiblity problems. :D

Mind you, I use quality media (usually Verbatim DataLifePlus). Also, I don't have a CD-player in my car, but all discs I've tried in the rental cars I get for business trips have worked just fine.

Mostly I use 40x, sometimes 48x (max on my LTR-48245S), almost never slower than 32x. BTW, I scan all burns with KProbe and seldom have C1-average > 0.5 with Verbatim DLP.

Hello!

I burned all Audio-CDs with the max. speed that the writer can go (up to 52x) and had never problems with the quality.

Sometimes it´s more important to use a lower speed when reading
Benq DW 1640 and 1650 , Plextor PX-755, Pioneer BDR-208 and 209D, LG GH24NSC0, LG BH16NS40 and 16NS55, Liteon ihas 124F and 324F, Pioneer DVR-215 and S21, Samsung SH-224DB and 224GB, and some more

I've changed my strategy a bit lately. My default burn speed for music is now 16X with burning at 8X if music is close to or over 80 minutes.

cd burn speed

Postby bicomputational on Fri Sep 29, 2006 10:06 am

I burn at max speed with a Plextor Premium, a Plextor 716 and a Lite-On
52327 with average c1 of .5 using Ty media and 1.5 using Sony media -
no c2. I spot check jitter and have never had any problem. I did tests at
16x and saw no real difference - try burns at different speeds and see if it
matters in your set-up with your media.

I'm sticking with 16X and 8X for now, so the music has a better chance of playing in my car stereo. :D
