Can you hear it? That's the sound of all the HD DVD fanboys crying.

The scales tipped in favor of Blu-ray Disc the week ended Feb. 18, according to preliminary data.

Since the inception of both formats, the Sony-backed Blu-ray disc has now sold more units than its Toshiba-backed HD DVD competitor, according to Nielsen VideoScan First Alert data.

Buoyed by a rush of titles this year, Blu-ray has racked up a slight lead in unit sales — 100 units to every 98.71 units of HD DVD — since the inception of both formats, according to First Alert data.

meh, it could flip back the other way (and already has since then I believe).

Sales volumes of both Blu-ray and HD DVD movies are both very low still...

Blu-ray also had more new releases in January, which helped them sell more titles and catch up to HD DVD.

BluRay also had more releases in February.... and they will in March, and April, and May and .....ect. That's what happens when you have 4 exclusive studios compared to 1 exclusive studio

All of the movies that won oscars this year came from BluRay exclusive or neutral studios also...

It's just more and more nails in the HDDVD coffin.

LOL, I wasn't paying THAT close attention during the Oscars to note that tidbit. Interesting info though!

There are some interesting stats in Blu-ray's presentation at MEDIA-TECH:

It really shows how much Blu-ray is outselling HD DVD.
