Logitech Z-640 Speakers

Postby mrham on Fri Jan 10, 2003 7:11 pm

I just picked up a set of Z-640's at a real good price, however, I have no hook up chart on how to connect the 3 plugs from the center speaker to the sound card.
Anyone have this speaker set?

All you need is a Y-splitter for the mini-stero plug. Then you can connect the center and rear speakers to the same output jack on the sound card. This way worked fine for my old computer when I only had one output jack and wanted to hook up 2 sets of speakers for a total of 4 speakers.

How much did you pay for Z-640? They look really nice and I'm sure they must sound better than my Z-560.

Hey BuddhaTB, the Z-540's are the entry level 5.1's, $67.00 at Newegg.

The really kick-butt new Logitech 5.1's are the Z-680's, here is an image about $320.

I have the Z-560's, not the lower-end Z-540's. That's not a bad price for an entry level 5.1 speaker system. I wonder how many watts the Z-540's put out.

Hmmm. I've been looking to upgrade my speakers. My ACS45's don't cut it anymore. What's everyone's opinion on the frequency range of the speakers?

My brother is a manager at HiFi Buys. He said that they have Klipsch and Bose. Any experience with them? Also...any suggestions for sound cards to pair up with these speakers?

Thanks everyone!

Sorry  , I meant that the first set were the Z-640's. I didn't edit very well before posting that one I guess. In any case, they are really quite a good deal as I have seen them offered for $57 on the web. But, the Klipsch Killers will be the Z-680's which are very similar price ($315 Logitech vs. $335 Klipsch) and power-wise (450watt Logitech vs. 500watt Klipsch) but with some nice additional features. Here is a review of the Z-680's - http://gear.ign.com/articles/375/375816p1.html

If it counts for anything, maybe your card has a digital output? And Maybe those speaks have a digital input? I have Boston Acoustics BA790s, and they use the digital coax output from my Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It's MUCH better than the analog output.

The Klipsch and Bose are both top of the line speaker systems. They are very good, but they will cost you a bit. If you want plenty of performance for a bit less, I would do some research and read some reviews on the Logitech Z-560's. In general, any of the Logitech systems will provide great value for your money.
