Dimension 8250 (P4) or Precision 450 (Xeon)? Help!

Postby Cthulhu on Fri Mar 28, 2003 12:53 pm

I am gearing up to buy a new machine. I have a copy of 3d Studio MAX r5 and a nVidia Quadro4 750 XGL that I can't use on my current machine (dinosaur) so I'd like to get a machine to use them on.

I plan on making small 3d movies, models, environments etc... but I am just beginning.

I am trying to decide between a Dell Precision 450 or a Dimension 8250. Basically I am trying to figure out if the Xeon is really all that necessary. I'd rather not spend the money if I don't have to, but I'd like less to have to buy another machine in a year.

If someone could lend some advice I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,

I my opinion, the new P4's at Dell will suit your needs well and won't become old dinosaur technology for a long while. Just make sure you get enough RAM to run your graphic intensive applications.
