Dude I Got A Dell!

Postby craiger on Sat Aug 09, 2003 10:30 am

Just came yesterday. I got a Dell Pentium 4 2.4 with a 16x DVD-ROM and a 48x24x48x cd-rw that was a free upgrade plus I got a free Western Digital 80 gig 7200 RPM hard drive upgrade and $150 off instantly. I got it with 256mb of DDR ram. That seems to be fine. I also got the Nvidia Geforce 4 MX 8x AGP card. I'm just a casual gamer. I got it with Windows XP Service Pack 1 and Works Suite 2003, EZ CD Creator 5 basic and Power DVD XP. I got it all for $754 plus tax and shipping. I love it. Boots up twice as fast as my old Gateway Pentium 2. I gave that to my parents. Later, Craiger.

One more thing, the 16x DVD-ROM is a Samsung and the CD-RW is an HL-DT-ST GCE-8481B. I went to LG's site and the GCE-8481B is an LG the GCE seemed like and LG drive. I wonder what the HL-DT-ST means. I don't have a floppy installed on it. I wondered about a DVD burner but you only need one of those if you are going to shoot and edit home movies right?

DVD burners can also be used to backup hard drive files more conveniently when the backup spans several CD-Rs.

Dell computers boot up so quickly. How?! The fastest I've ever gotten a computer I've built myself to boot up is about 30 seconds. My current computet with pretty much everything I need takes about 40 seconds from cold boot.

I'm amazed at how fast Dell computers bootup. I would purchase one on the basis of that alone.

HL-DT-ST = Hitachi LG Data Storage or some such.
it's a joint venture between Hitachi and LG.

congrats on your new computer! enjoy! :D

Eliminator, you work there, since you are from Texas (Lone Star State)? I've been doing contract work there for past few months in IT dept.
Craiger, What system model number? Optiplex GX260? I've deployed quite a few of those with Win2000 and some with XP, and they boot pretty fast.
