PowerDVD vs WinDVD, fight!

Just wanted to know, which is a better software decoder? If anyone here has both that is. Any difference in features?

PowerDVD XP 4.0 came with my drive, but I've heard good things about WinDVD...screenshots of the interface bar would be appreciated... :p

FYI PowerDVD 5 is out and WinDVD has a new version out as well. I've been happy with both versions of PDVD.

I used to watch my DVD with PowerDVD XP. I always had problems handling this piece of software intuitively. Recently I sold my graphics adapter PowerDVD came with and so I switched to WinDVD 5. I am pretty surprised how easy and clear the usage is and will stick to WinDVD for a while. Especially, I do like the screenshot panel which "collects" several screenies. That's quite more attractive than in PowerDVD.

I haven't used WINDVD yet, however I've had problems with PowerDVD and DVDR backups. I couldn't even get powerDVD to work on my DELL notebook w/Toshiba DVD-ROM.. :-?

I have the same problem with DVD+R media. I cannot get them to play using Powerdvd XP 4.0. I can only play DVD+RW media.

I have ordered an OEM version of Powerdvd 5.0.

For now, I use Windows Media Player for the DVD+R media.

Equally good softwares IMO & there is no important differences between them .They are very competitive products... Try & buy one of them ...

Haven't tried WinDVD.

I'm actually using PowerDVD 3.0 b/c it has Dolby Surround in 4/6 speaker mode whereas 4.0 XP only has 2 speaker support.

Both were bundled OEM products.

Just google for it. Digital Digest had a comparison between the newest PDVD and WDVD. Personally, I find PDVD to be easier on the eyes and have better layout and options. Currently using PDVD5 loaded version. Sweet.

imo windvd 5.1 just looks far nicer too and is easier to use AND loads vcd/kvcd/svcd/xvcd properly whereas pdvd tends to skip and die on most formats, also image quality i find on windvd alot better and aspect ratio shifting on windvd for user burned films is better plus it has nicer divx decoding and all the audio features and disc info tools plus network running for remote access among many many other features
