How fast is too fast?

DVD Rip spped

I am using DVD Decrypter and Lite-on 165H to rip movies. Why does the read rate max out at 7-8X. Should it not be higher? Is there a faster DVD drive out there?

If the DVD's are DVD-9(dual layer) then that is normal,I have the 165H and that's what I get in File Mode.
