Purchasing a Toshiba SD-M1712

How fast is too fast?

Purchasing a Toshiba SD-M1712

Postby TheMule on Wed Dec 17, 2003 5:30 pm

Greetings,

I've been having abit of trouble finding a place that sells said drive online, and actually specifies wether its the 1712 or 18** model. ZipZoomfly has a great deal on them :(http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDe ... ode=171604)

but they list both models there. Any suggestions as to where I can find one these great drives?

Thanks,

In Germany they have plenty of them. A few can be found also in Slovenia, Europe. I'm afraid you won't find any for online purchase...

Han is essentially correct, but I did manage to find one left at dumpinggoods.com. Act fast if you want it. Unfortunately they don't have such a good rating on resellerratings.com. They are also available at gooddealpc.com for a higher price but with better ratings.

There is a new firmware for the TOSHIBA 1802 which is the newest model from Toshiba. Here is the link:

So if you want the newest Toshiba dvd-rom there is a firmware upgrade. You can check Ebay for the 1712 or 1612. I just picked up another 1612 from there and it works fine. :)

This is only RPC1 firmware that unlocks region protection. Reading speeds remain the same - ripping of DVD movies is locked to 2x, reading of DVD±R(W) is also slow...

Hopefully Hijacker will break the read speed soon! :)

Well, not Neo (who hacked the read speed on the 16**/17** models), but The Dangerous Brothers (I love that name :)) have done it this time. There's word that J031 should be out on Hijacker's Toshiba Nolimit page soon, after it's tested some more. Ending at 15.02x looks darn good to me!

Greetings,

Thanks for all the great info! However, I just went ahead and purchased a Lite-On 166S Retail, as I've had bad experiences with OEM items in the past. Once again, thanks for the great tips! :>

P.S How I hope my new Lite On doesn't shit the bed after a year.
