WEll - im trying to get my pc as silent as possible - low noise power supply - low noise fans - etc.
But my Lite-On DVD-Rom speaks as a bird on speed..

Any opinions for silent DVD-Roms out there ?
Or has there been a test somewhere ?

Cheers

I recently used a Toshiba SD-M1712 and it is very quiet. I like my Lite-On drive for my PC and don't really mind the noise. I like the support utilities available for the Lite-On drives.

Well - define "Idle"..
If it's not spinning - its not making any noise.. :)

I have an LG/Hitachi drive and it's super quiet. You don't even know it's there unless you rip somethin' at warp speed.

Download Ahead's DriveSpeed program. It lets you change the maximum speed of any CD/DVD drive. Personally I don't have to use it, because on my Pioneer 106s drive, I have a utility which changed the drive speed in the firmware.
