DVD or CD-rom

i currently have a TDK Velo cd and a regular 52x cdrom,

will i see a performance decrease when i record from cdrom to cdrw if i replace my cdrom with a DVD reader.. i know DVD drives dont read DVD's at 52x... but for recording audio, will they still hit the faster ???

How fast is your CDROM for ripping?

not sure according to nero speed read, its average speed is (26.42). It does pretty good ripping audio though, despite the nero speed read test I just dont wanna loose recording speed if i swap this 52x cdrom for a DVDrom

The LiteON LTD 16x series DVD-ROM have good ripping ability.

My LTD 163d rocks for that.

LiteOn 166s will rip audio, perfectly, at 40x+. Data on the fly at 48x.

Not as long as you get the right drive, you should even gain speed.

DVD-ROM drives are typically newer technology. As such, most of them are faster and more reliable for data ripping. There are of course exceptions, however I'd say LG and Lite-On offer a good balance of price and performance.
