Unable to play a .avi file.....

Postby pranav81 on Fri Aug 26, 2005 2:36 pm

Hi dudes.

Just downloaded a huge .avi file.I have installed all the codecs that are needed to play the file, like DivX,XviD,etc.

But still I am not able to play only this specific file in any software.I tried using Windows Media Player 10,PowerDVD 6,DivX Player.Even Nero doesnt let me preview the file in the VCD menu dialog. All these software's just hang,I have to kill them manually from task manager.Even after they are closed the CPU usage is 100%.

All other .avi files play fine.

What could be the problem?

Waiting for some replies.....

Thanks in advance.

Could the file be corrupt?

Have u tried divxfix??
if ur file is incomplete it won't be able to play until u sorta recreate the "table of contents" for the avi file.

or u can try getting tmpgenc and try opening it...usually works out for me

I will try divxfix and let you know.

I will also try opening the file using TMPEG.

I dont think the file is corrupt,as generally if the file is corrupt WMP will give and error and refuse to open it.Here the player hangs & CPU usage becomes 100% and stays 100% even when the application trying to open the file is closed.

I will let you guys know what happens.

Hi all.

I downloaded Divxfix. When I try to open the file with it,the software hangs,as other software players.Same with TMPG.

I guess the file is corrupt.I will have to download it again.

Thanks for the suggestions.
