change tdk's 401248b to LITE ON firmware?

i have computer with two burners:
40x12x48 tdk (B) version which i think is a LITE ON on slave and i am using mainly as cd rom for disc to disc(on the fly) recording and i have a LITE ON 48125w 48x12x48 on master as the main cd recorder. if i changed the tdk to lite on firmware, will it cause a problem for the on the fly recording or should i just keep the tdk firmware and avoid any conflicts? and if i change the firmware, are there any benefits?

You might get some increased media compatibility, but not much else. You could overclock it to 48/12/48 if you wanted, but I don't recommend it if you already have a 48x burner and you only use the TDK for reading.

In addition to increased media compatibility, upgrading the firmware on a TDK VeloCD/CyClone 401248B will do these two things: (1) change the write strategy from Z-CLV to P-CAV and (2) add support for Mt. Rainier.

Here are the change logs along with the firmware updates for the 401248B. :)

i changed the firmware to the lastest lite on 48125w firmware using flash fix and it worked fine but the tdk does not work well as a slave drive like it used to. during the middle of the recording, the tdk slows down and speeds up again causing the true lite on to stop and wait for the buffer to reach 100%. i then unhooked the true lite on and made the TDK the master leaving the true lite on unhooked and the tdk burner worked fine like the true LITEON 4812W.
when it was using the tdk firmware and was used as a second cd rom drive, the disc to disc worked fine at 40x but now i can't use the tdk as the second cd drive because of the slow down as a slave drive.
what should i do? change it back to tdk firmware? because the tdk does work fine as a master using the the lite on firmware and quality seems to be the same as the true lite on. sorry if all this is confusing.

Do you have the two drives on separate IDE channels? When doing on-the-fly copies, it is best to have the source and destination drives on separate IDE channels.

Also, if for some strange reason it the TDK really prefers to be master (it shouldn't make any difference), then try making the LiteOn slave. But, again, the best choice is to put them on separate channels.

your were right cfitz, i changed the tdk to a different IDE cord and it works fine. fly to fly at 40x works perfect. thank you cfitz,dhc014, and reg-da-ripper
