nero re-encodes my mpegs!

I have converted an xvid video file (it was of a wedding party - not something downloaded!) that I received from a relative. I converted the xvid file to mpeg format using Tmpgenc plus - I used the dvd compliant mpeg 2 template and out popped (a few hours later) an mpeg2 file. When I tried to burn the file with Nero, Nero Vision 3 re-encoded the file and then authored it before burning the movie (which means quality loss as there is an extra encoding process going on here). Is there anyway Nero can author a DVD Mpeg 2 file and burn it without re-encoding it?
Thanks

This is something I've been meaning to ask too!!!

I would very much like to keep my chosen bitrate without NVE redoing it to one their standard ones.

First of all, it's made more complicated by NERO AG.

The easiest way is to start "Nero Burn" manually, then you get the screen to shuffle the files from the HDD C: (for instance) right the My Documents
directory, depending on where you saved the .mpg file on your HardDisk,
then you move the complete .mpg file to the left on the DVD side, and click on burn, then you can choose the type of DVD, most used are DVD(ISO) and then burn.
After that your DVD will be reading in each DVD-player also on your computer...

A clean burning same ol' original mpeg2 this way, once I had an AVI from an Italian CD wich was already .mpg on the CD so I copied the file and then was seeking the way through NERO, that's why I remembered !

This way I use also "NeroBurn" to copy DVD's ! (no recoding)

With Nero Recode or Vision you only use that to convert or authoring your files.

succes, Harry

This question has been brought up frequently and answered by some people including Craig from Nero. When you are using Nero recode or Nero Visio Express to copy a DVD file, the first thing Nero does look in to the file to make sure the file is fully compliant with Nero DVD format if not start recoding the file and after recoding process is done then will burn the file. As far as I know there is way to by pass this process.

With apology; "There is no way to by pass this process" as far as I know.

Since there is a critical point here from TCAS (I'm glad he's sure, that I began to doubt)
I did follow the whole procedure of .MPG
burning the way I discribed again, to answer honestly, I remembered wrong...
_____________________________________________
I now get the information dialog-box:
http://www.hardwarexpo.net/graphics/mpg.jpg

(translated from dutch to englisch)
The next files do not belong in the VIDEO_TS directory of a DVD-Video
compilation: IlMio Canto Libero.mpg

Only files conform DVDVideo
(VIDEO_TS.IFO
VIDEO_TS.VOB
VIDEO_TS.BUP
VTS_nn_0.IFO
VTS_nn_0.VOB
VTS_nn_0.BUP
VTS_nn_m.VOB)
can be added to the VIDEO_TS directory.
Add files of a completed DVDVideo-title
or use a program for Authoring like NeroVision Express
to make DVDVideo files from Stanard video-files like
*.avi and *.mpg
______________________________________________
I remembered wrong, I was backing up the .MPG as data to a DVD disk, and I now confirm that I
was once making a DVD for a cousin in Italy, since I had the MPG file "recoded" still on the
HDD and burned that VIDEO_TS directory on DVD.
So I mixed some things.
Because I was also experimenting with copies of a complete DVD, wich can directly burned with
NBR so the disc will not be recoded, although with starting from SmartStart the NeroVisionExpress
will be starting, and then RECODE will start if you continue.
Excuses for bringing you in the wrong direction!

VIDEO_TS directory:

Video_ts.bup
Vts_01_0.bup
Video_ts.ifo
Vts_01_0.ifo
Video_ts.vob
Vts_01_1.vob

What I can say is that the result of recoding is correct like the original
I'm convinced and satified the way it does!

The next time when I will give my reply on such complicated subjects,
I will be more secure, and will be checking things directly before replying!

I hope you will forgive me, Harry

Hello Everyone,

Sorry for the delay in contributing to this topic, but I've been away on Vacation, then to the CES show, and then Sick for a few days. So I have been out of 'action' for a few weeks to say the least.

Nero Vision will check the source MPEG-2 file to confirm it is MPEG-2/DVD Compliant, if it's not, then it will automatically Re-Encode the file to make it compliant.

We did find that some MPEG-2 files created by TMPGEnc and DivX were not being properly recognized by our software as being compliant, and we are taking steps to address this. We have already made some improvements in this area in the current build of NVE 3.0.1.18 posted on our website.

And the NVE 3.0.1.25 and later builds have already improved on this more, but still needs to be debugged before posting.

We are continuing to ask customers to provide us with information about any MPEG-2 files that are not being properly detected by our software, and what program created it so that we can insure compatibility between the programs.

Regards,

Craig
