Whats your view and personal opinion on the Pioneer DVD-ROM 106 Slot loading DVD drive.

I have one myself and have been very happy with it,though how does this drive compare to some of the other DVD-ROM drives on the market.

I have both the 104s and 106s slot drives. As far as comparing them to other drives, I can't help you, as I only have owned these Pioneer. I personally like slot-load drives better than flimsy trays. I wish someone would make a slot-load CD-RW or DVD-RW drive! I also like the speed utility that Pioneer has, that lets you reduce the speed of the drive, so it is quieter. I have my drive set to quiet mode, and it still plenty fast.

FYI, Nero DriveSpeed does the same and works for all drives.

i am a owner of the following 16x dvd drives:

JLMS 166S
Toshiba m-1712
Aopen 1640 Pro-A/Pioneer 106S

and the pioneer is the only one that is not able to rip at full 16x speed

but that drive worked like a champ for few years, few months ago it just gave out on me, but i used it for everything, just cause it was slot loading and was very convenient of loading media

I had a -104SZ. Worked well, then the laser alignment got messed up. I had to open the drive and manually adjust the screws that control the laser alignment. Kinda put me off the drive, so I sold it and got a nice Samsung 616T.

I've had my 106s/2 (RPC1 flashed with fw 1.22) for well over a year now, I sold it some months back to a guy but bought it back off him because i missed it!!

It's a very fast responding drive and pioneers uility is great :)

It's also ATA66 which is nice

I've had these drive for about a year now. I also like the fact it is ATA66 compatible and it responds fast. I am able to plug this into a Promise ata133 controller and still get great performance.

The only bad thing is that it rips audio at 16x speed. Though I have the Liteon 166S for ripping audio upto 48x speed.
