If not, is it a "true" Plextor? I know that their 54x CD-ROM is a Mitsumi...

Any reason to get it of a Lite On 166S? Other than that is says "Plextor" on it ?

It's an pioneer oem drive that came out about a year ago that is rated 16/48. I almost bought it, but I already had a Pioneer 106S that was rated 16/40. I ended up getting a Liteon 165H, which stopped working in my Intel AGP8x motherboards. I finally got a Liteon 166S once the prices dropped. This has worked flawlessly.

That's right it is! I always forget about Pioneers DVD-ROM's...they used to be top dog until Lite-On came and stole their thunder.

And yes, the 166S is a very nice drive! I beat the crap out of mine and it still works great. Quite the fast ripper!

Think so? It was the loudest, noisy drive I´ve ever heard :(

I like my Lite-On DVD-ROM, it's definitely a good ripper, but it is indeed very loud.

It may be loud, but it sure is fast!

No faster than Pioneer DVD-ROM's which are also pretty quiet I hear.
