Hi:

I have a HP desktop and when I place a DVD disc in the DVD drive it just spins and eventually locks up to stop it from spinning.

I would assume the DVD drive has gone bad, but I do not know for sure.
Any suggestions and/or recommendations will be appreciated.

It does sound like the drive is bad, but there are several other things that should be checked first. First of all, does this happen will all DVDs, or just one? Are you trying to use video DVDs or data DVDs? Do CDs work in your drive?
