Can someone recommend a good DVD-ROM drive?

I know newbies start threads like this all the time and I apologize, but I need a drive that will meet my specific needs and I have had a hard time finding reviews of DVD-ROM drives (DVDRW/CDRW reviews are EVERYWHERE).

Anyways, I have a Sony DRU510A DVD+/-RW drive. I would like to add a DVD-ROM drive to my system that I could use as a Source drive for copying DVDs. I'd like the drive to be relatively quiet so I can use it to watch DVDs and capable of reading a variety of media.

Any suggestions? OR any places other than CDRLabs that has reviews for new DVD-ROM drives?

Thanks in advance...

I'd highly recomend the Pioneer 120 series or the Plextor PX-116A, which is, a rebadged Pioneer. Just go for whichever you can get for less.

Ive got 2 Liteon 166s, they are both great drives, good ripping times, quiet, plus can be turned region free.

Thanks guys, I researched the Lite-On 166s and after reading comments here & @CDFreaks I went ahead and ordered one. It was $35 for a retail package!

I'll let ya'll know how it turns out...

just to warn you, its crappy for build quality, mine gave out after about 4 months of use

if you live close to a staples you can buy there protection plan, so if it goes out, they'll just give you your money back

the 1 year replacement plan will be $7.99 + tax

and before you question my staples plan knowledge, yes you can buy the plan for an item you bought at a 3rd party site

for dvd-rom im back to my trusty 16x pioneer 106s, its slot loading which is very cool, i would have recommended the 120s, slot loading

you and me have different meanings for heavy using, trust me

also considering im still using my very fist dvd-rom that i ever bought, pioneer 106s, is saying a lot

its still 16x ripping too, at the time it was the first 16x dvd-rom out

I doubt your too far off from my definition of heavy usage, a couple (3+-) dvd rips per day.
