Hi,

Very often when I burn a DVD, and then I play it on my DVD player, there are at a certain point some squares in the picture, and then the sound and images are out of sync untill the end of the DVD.

I was wondering, could this be the quality of the DVDs ? I buy cheap DVDs. But, most of the time, lets say 4 on 5 are perfect.

So is it the DVDs, the burner (BenQ), the software (NeroVision Express) ? The original files are downloaded from the Internet (.AVI).

What do you think ? Thanks

It could be a combination of them all. I've found that if some model DVD players get out of sync (due to errors on the disc, etc) they never get back.

That said, Nerovision is probably the most likely cause, since it has to re-encode the video and losing sync is pretty easy to do in this case. Are you using Nero 6 or 7? (I ask since 7 seems sooooo buggy). You might want to revert to 6, if you can.

That said, better media will never HURT, it might be worth a shot.

Yes, I use Nero 6. I've just tried with a much better DVD and it did the samething at the same place in the movie.

Is there out there a better software than Nero ? I'm tired of this.

Thanks for the suggestion but I've looked at it and it doesn't take .AVI files.

What kind of software are you looking for exactly?

Are you looking to take AVI files and make DVDs out of them, creating menus and all that? That's my guess from the different posts you've made, but I wanted to be sure.

NeroVision Express is a pretty good program. I don't normally create DVDs with it, though I have created SVCDs from AVI files I have downloaded and never had a problem.

If these AVI files of yours are files you are downloading, it is possible that the AVI source file has the problem and that's what's causing the glitch. Even a minor problem in the source file could cause larger problems when an encoder is trying to encode it.

If you want to try something else, here are a couple of other programs that can create DVDs from AVI files:

i have met the same problem using NeroVision Express to burn .avi to DVD, also using a BenQ 1620.
i don't think the burner or the media matter. it's a software transcoding issue. i have NeroVision 'burn' the DVD to a HD folder. if i play the files using PowerDVD 5 i see the same sound-out-of-sync issue, appears to be identical to what i see when burned to DVD and played on my Sony player.

for what it's worth i noticed that i can usually get this to disappear (as best i can see. maybe it is just less frequent and the sync gap is very small ?) if i use Quality setting: High quality and Encoding mode: High quality (2-pass).
you can experiment. click More > Video Options.

using Avi2DVD, no sync errors between sound and video.
(i used the HCEnd encoder).

Yeah, the HCEnc encoder is really quite nice.

I use it with DVD-Rebuilder and it works well and much faster compared to encoders that cost money, like CCE.

OK, DVD-Rebuilder, another tool to learn how to use...<sigh>

gotta say though, till now i was using NeroVision, and putting aside the issue of audio-out-of-sync-with-video, the video quality i got from NeroVision (High Quality, 2-pass) was better than that i got from Avi2DVD with HCEng at best quality (which takes much longer by the way)!

unfortunately, using Avi2DVD, no sync problem between audio and video...but: subtitles out of sync
