Anyone own a Apex TV? Any problems with them or any comments?

I have a freind who wants one to replace an old 19 inch and wants a 24-to-27 inch around $125.

I don't own one, but I've carefully viewed a bunch in stores lately because I have been looking at 20" to 24" TVs. You would be hard pressed to beat their prices, but their picture quality definitely doesn't compare to Sony, Toshiba, Panasonic, etc.

One thing to watch out for is their tendency to overscan too much. In other words, they scan the electron beam further past the edge of the bezel than most sets so that more of the picture around the edges gets cut off. Compare them side-by-side with other models and see if you can notice the difference now that you are aware of it.

Most of the time it doesn't cause any real harm, but if can be a problem if you are watching a channel with a scrolling ticker at the bottom (e.g a morning news show with the weather and traffic in a bar at the bottom). The lower halves of the letters tend to get cut off so you have a hard time reading the words.

If your friend can only afford $125, I would suggest considering smaller TVs like the 20" or, if you can find them, 18" models. I don't think $125 is going to buy you a 24" to 27" TV you really want to watch. Remember, a bigger screen will magnify picture defects, and you are sure to have defects in a $125 24"-27" model.
