Are TDKs "Up to 24x" CDrs incmpatible with SM-348b

Postby bto on Thu Feb 06, 2003 6:57 pm

Does anyone know?.

I recently acquired a Samsun Combo drive (SM-348b) and have been unable to burn using TDKs up to 24X CDRs....but on the other hand I have been able to burn using TDKs CDRWs and Maxell CDRWs.

FYI, the CDR (From TDK) are made by Ritek. and My firmware version y t504. And also, my drive has 8MB cache (retail).

And if it is INDEED incompatible with TDK media, would anyone recommend a Good Brand for CDRs?.

Thanks for any info that can be provided :D .

Explanation...

Postby bto on Thu Feb 06, 2003 8:39 pm

When I try to burn with Nero (5.5.10.7) using a TDK CDR..I get a message when it "finishes" saying there were some buffer under-run problems, this was with simulation mode...which means it did not even go into really burning.

So I try a 2nd time, and I get this message saying that the medium does not have enough space...even though it is reported as empty.

But I have no trouble burning CDRWs from Maxell and TDK.

I have not done serious burning....so I do not know if other brands would work.

Any ideas?.

BTW, thanks for replying.

There's not much I don't already know about the Skyline GT-R. They are one of the best cars ever created. I was very sad to see Nissan close up production on the R34. I love the design and power of the R33 and R34 models. Simply the best!

My avatar is of the Veilside R34 Skyline GT-R.

If you wanna talk more about Skyline's or import cars, head over to the Beer Garden and we start/continue a thread there.

Sorry to everyone else for hijacking the thread.

Fuji, Memorex and you could also try the TDK's that are manufactured by Tayio Yuden ( Usaually say made in japan on the cake). Do a search or look through a few pages to find post about TY disk what companies put their names on it

Another thing you might try...go to: www.samsungodd.com and download firmware T505. I have the same drive and I am burning 24X Fuj's at 48X, older Mitsui All Speeds at 40X and Sony 32X...at 32X. I have also burned Verbatim 48X...but they would only burn at 32X as well. I think this drive is very picky about the media...but each firmware seems to improve that.
