ASUS unveiled its new BW-12B1LT 12x Blu-ray Disc writer at CeBIT. According to the info at bluray-disc.de, the drive writes to both BD-R and BD-R DL media at 12x and BD-R LTH discs at 6x. Read speeds top out at only 8x though.

Any thoughts on the true manufacturer? It doesn't appear to be a Pioneer BDR-205. Maybe the LG BH12LS?

LG always had its LED and ejection hole rather close. This Asus picture is more reminisce of recent LiteOn/Optiarc venture in the DVD burner world. Only if the top of the drive were shown, then it would be easier to identify.

I totally forgot about the BW-12B1LT. Going by the placement of the LED and ejection hole, its definitely not a BDR-205 or BH12LS.

Has Lite-On given up on the Blu-ray writer market?

This is just a guess.. its based on a new Lite-On design that we haven't heard anything about yet.

Well I hope Sony has more to do with it then liteon but I guess I'll never give up my prejudice against them after the 2 crappy 811 burners I wasted my money on...

The bezel layout on the drive at CeBIT is very similar to the Lite-On iHBS112 and iHBS212.

I recently bought a BW-12B1LT burner.
Seeems a good product.
I hope there will be regular firmware updates...
Maybe a Lite-On iHBS212 rebadge, but, if it's true, I'm wondering why specifications between the two models are quite different...

Hi - I happen to buy a second hand ASUS BW-12B1LT and therefore do not have the CD /DVD that contains all the software that comes along with the product. Can someone please help me on how to acquire the CD / DVD? is there an ISO image downloadable? Unfortunately the ASUS web site does not list the product and I don't think they would provide the entire CD / DVD.

Thanks in advance for your help!
