Auto Insert Notification

Postby SPaulovic on Fri Sep 12, 2003 12:57 pm

After having installed Nero 6 a warning message appeared that said
that I have to uncheck auto-insert-notification.

I have the German Windows 98 version so I dont know if I translated
the option name correctly.

I use my CD-RW drive LiteON 52327S for two months now with
auto-insert-notification disabled.

But the problem is that it is annoying to refresh my drive by pressing
F5 in Windows 98 "My Computer" whenever I change a disc.

If a new disc is inserted the content of the old disc is still visible.
This also concerns Audio CDs.

In a German help file of Nero I read that this option should be left
unchecked because errors while burning a disc could occur.

I used auto-insert-notification with my old Traxdata 4x4x24 and
no errors occured.

So my question is, do I have to leave this disabled or can I enable
this option, because as already mentioned it is very annoying to refresh
the drive after inserting new cds.

I think the main reason for this is to avoid a buffer underrun when the CD is analyzed. Turning Autorun off will avoid this. On the other hand, if you avoid inserting a disk in another optical drive during a burn (or if you only have a burner and no other optical drive), there's no point in disabling it.

Furthermore, with the anti-coaster protection that all modern drives have, a buffer underrun is no big deal- so you might as well leave autorun on if "F5" is a nuisance.

Thank you MediumRare for your advice. With your help I solved two
problems at once. Now I don't have to switch F5 after each CD insert
and Nero Drive Speed is working properly now :D
( I don't have to switch to 24x after every CD insert. )

I posted about the Nero Drive Speed problem in this forum,
so I will write a solution to this problem on my own :D

Thank you!
