BenQ DW 1620 OEM

HI,
Can anybody help,
i am thinking of buying the above burner, but i have read
somewhere that you can,t update the firmware on the
oem models .
i would like to update with the new f/ware so i can burn
at 4x d/layer turning it into the pro model. Is it true that only the retail models can
be updated or both can.

no...gotta follow the instructions in the links

You have to follow the cross flash procedure, but then after that, from then on, you just flash with the most current firmware that comes out.

Also speaking of OEM DW1620s. Tiger Direct has what appears to be OEM 1620s for $50 under the name Famous Brands. It advertises WOPC II and has same specs and looks like 1620s. Add in $8.38 for shipping.
