I kind of wonder, I have not seen any online or offline US retailer selling BenQ 1640 while this site in Los Angeles, CA offiering this drive, it must be some thing I can't understand. Is this drive started showing in US market?, if yes then how come we can't find any in BB, Fry's, CompUSA, CC or newegg.com and mwave.com?.

Well, I'm not surprised about places like CompUSA and Fry's. They'd be selling the retail version and would be getting it after the online stores.

I'm surprised though that more places are not selling the OEM version. What, we've seen a total of two now?

3 actually... and 2 of them in Canada. Actually... given the allocation of this drive through BenQ, I can only guess that those drives were brought in grey market from Canada :o

Hrm... I suppose it's about time eh?

Funny though, I had heard they wouldn't get any until closer to the end of THIS month.

But they were out of stock completely after first 2 hours of availability of the 1640 announced. The next stock as they promised would be tomorrow August 2.

Except that they make you pay for return shipping if they send you a defective product. :o

Just one reason I don't buy from Newegg anymore, well, I haven't since May at least, and that was for a PX-716A that it took them so long to give me information about that I got it elsewhere for much less, so I refused delivery. The last delivery from Newegg I accepted was for a floppy drive back in January.

Is there a decent online computer part store that doesn't make you pay the return shipping? I thought that went the way of the dodo after the Internet bubble...

Newegg customer service is still pretty good in my book... compared to somewhere like ZZF who has been known the try to charge a restocking fee for defective items... :P
