best external DVD burner?

Postby SkaarjMaster on Thu Sep 17, 2020 11:11 am

Screwed up and got a new laptop with no DVD burner......which external ones should I consider hooking up? Not necessarily the fastest, but the most reliable. Thank you.

EDIT: for the new MSI laptop in my sig;)

Portable or full size external?

I think the only companies still making truly portable Blu-ray drives are LG and Pioneer. Both are good in my book but it looks like LG is still stuck on USB 2.0 where Pioneer has adopted USB 3.0.

Actually, doesn't have to be blu-ray, I was just thinking DVD burner. Although, as long as they're portable for laptop, then why not blu-ray (as long as it plays all DVDs also).

Maybe this one will work:

The Pioneer is a newer design and I'd take USB 3.0 over USB 2.0 any day.

Got the Pioneer and it can play movies in Win10 with the free Cyberlink software (couldn't get it to work with VLC player for some odd reason; did try the files suggested online). I'll try burning with it later. Thank you.
