Best way to backup data on DVD?

Postby JiPi on Wed Jan 05, 2005 12:22 am

Hi,

I just got the latest version of Nero and I'm a bit confused as to how I should back up data with this software. Should I use UDF, UDF/ISO, ISO..? I'm confused.

What I would like to burn is, say, a directory containing 118 folders with 871 files, weighing a total of 4.6GB. What would be the easiest way?

Before getting my new drive (LG GSA-4160B) I used to write with CDRWIN and it was very simple using the "File Backup & tools" tab and the "Backup files directly (on the fly) to an ISO9660 / UDF compatible disc" option. I just put the directory I wanted to burn and click Start. I burned 702MB of data on 700MB without any problem all the time. But now my drive isn't supported yet by the latest version of CDRWIN, sadly.

So, anyone able to give me tips on how to burn with Nero? Or maybe if there are some better ways to do it, feel free to let me know!

Thanks.

Are you trying to make an exact copy of the Data DVD?

If the answer is yes, simply use the DVD Copy option. It will do everything for you.

Or do you wish only to backup certain files off the DVD?

For this process, UDF/ISO would be best for compatibility purposes.

I would only use UDF if you have file names that are too large and keep on being truncated when using the UDF/ISO option.
