LG burning problem-PLEEEEEZE HELP

Postby nardjr on Fri Dec 27, 2002 5:50 pm

Hi ALL

I have recently installed a 48/24/48 cutter from LG into my computer as my HP 10x just died and it was time to get some faster stuff. I also installed a 256 chip on my system (giving me 384 total ram) but the problemis the cutter just doesnt cut anywhere near fast enough. It only seems to be cutting at 6x, even slower than my original HP. Is maybe the drive defective? Or is there something I need to adjust in my settings. I am running XP Pro, have CloneCD and Roxio installed for burning at this time.

 lol I think he means his burner. Please use words we all can understand, that way you can get help faster.
Well, you just mentioned it's burning at 6x. Did you try other media yet? LG drives are quite choosy about media. If you are burning CDs which you had bought for your HP and their max speed limit is slow, then you will get slow speeds. Try some different high speed media and see if you still get the same results.

OK, sorry, my budzz and I call ours cutters, because we are 'cutting' cds.
Anyhow, yes, I have tried new media, I am using SmartBuy 32x that a friend from work is having absolutley no trouble with 'burning' at 40x with his LG 40x burner.

Ok if you have used different media then there could be so many reasons for slow burning
-try uninstalling the drive and letting windows detect it again
-update your roxio easy cd creator
-get the latest firmware
-try other burning programs like nero
-did you install the roxio software which came with the LG or you were using it with your hp? If so then the HP drive could have set the max burn speed.

Here is what I have done so far

- Tweaked unnnecccesary features in Admin Tools/Services
- Checked what was installed for ASPI, updated
- Installed NERO and tested
- Updated Clone to 4.2

Other possibly handy info

running AMD athlon 800mhz chip with 384 MB ram

Computer seems to not be 'feeding' data fast enough to burner, I am not sure of the rpm of the Hard Drive, could this be an issue? I think I may be experiencing a bottleneck type of thing with the flow of data through the computer, resulting in these under achieving speeds. Any more good suggestions

That could hugely affect the speed of burns. Maybe you should try the drive out on a friend's computer and see how fast you can get. If the Hard Drive is bringing burn speeds down to 6x, that's not just a slow hard drive but sounds like the hard drive is close to its end. Maybe try defragmenting that drive and then burn with all programs closed.
