Buslink 52X CD-RW at Best Buy - Wrong Item Inside

Postby taxman150 on Sun Dec 29, 2002 3:50 pm

How's this for quality control at Buslink. I go and purchase the 52X drive at Best Buy early this morning for 44.99 after rebate. I find a perfect sealed box with the shrink wrap sealed all the way around it. I open it when I get home and in the box is a dirty, used Hayes Accura 144 + Fax144 modem. No software, manual or anything, just the old modem in bubble wrap with foam holders around it. This had to be originally packaged by Buslink this way as there was absolutely no evidence that the box had ever been opened before.

Well I guess its back to Best Buy to make the exchange. What a pain. I hope there are still some left. I'm assuming that I just got lucky to find this one, but I wanted to let everyone know to check their box as well.

lol, when returning yell at them and tell them to give you some media for free, as you had to go through so much trouble.

Isn't Hayes dead?, and to say 14.4 modem, kinda histerical.

Good grief, pretty bad for quality control in this case!, disturbing that it was a modem and not another CDRW drive. At least if it was wrong, it should have been a DVD recordable drive.

I can just imagine the look on the customer service reps face when you walk up and explain that one!

I bought a Buslink 48x12x48x drive in late November, but inside the box was a 48x24x48x drive.

That's pretty bad quality control. But I suspect someone returned back the BUSlink 52x drive box with their old modem inside and some how managed to shrinkwrap it back into its original packaging so Best But didn't need to open it up to check. Looks like someone cheated the system and got a free 52x cd-rw drive in their system.

Well I just got back and have a good drive now. Even though the shrink wrap looked perfectly sealed to me, Best Buy thought that someone may have caught them napping and returned a re-sealed box with the old modem inside while keeping the original drive and all packaging. They also said the same thing could have been done at Buslink though. Either way, I'm happy despite the extra work. At least I'm only 5 minutes away from a Best Buy. I'm just glad that they didn't suspect me of any trickery.

I'm glad to hear that it worked out for you in the end.

Shrink wrapping equipment is in retail stores is not uncommon, so I imagine someone would have one at home too.

Food Lion rewrapping their meat about 5 years ago comes to mind too.

It could also have been an employee. I have heard of employees doing exactly this when the Radeon 8500 came out :D; they take an open box item, or just open a box and take the card out then replace it with something else and use the store's sealer to seal the box. At least you didn't get screwed...

Makes me wonder about our resident Best Buy employee, hoxlund. :)
