Just got one too, mine came with a Lite-On CD-R, made by Ritek, no mention of the speed. Still an awesome deal for the price.

I have noticed this drive makes a little more noise (a high pitch whirr) when it kicks into high gear than my 48125 48X did. Its not a big deal since I have 3 fans in my case. Is this normal?

Personally. I've found 6S0D to be buggy. I reverted back to 6S0C.

The amber light came on for every burn I did, even @16x using 48x Verbatim media. Brutal. Back to 6S0C and all is fine again

Me not had any probs with the new f/w 650D.B4 the drive could be fussy with cheapo cdr's, but after flashin it, all the ones me tried work fine

In fact i never had any complaints about the 52246S liteon, apart from a short pause when i open My Computer, but i put that down 2 having Alcohol installed & diabling the virtual drive

this drive was a replacement 4 a screwed Artec 481248, so i would recommend the LiteOn 2 any 1 lookin 4 a good reliable burner

Concerning the 6S0C vs. 6S0D firmware comparison, I have found that the latest 6S0D firmware is far superior in error reduction.

Using the same Fuji (Taiyo Yuden) 80 minute media at 52x, CD Doctor measured:

Firmware 6S0C Max C1 error 22 - Avg 1.657

Firmware 6S0D Max C1 error 5 - Avg 0.099

In my opinion, there is no comparison in the firmware, 6S0D wins hands down. The error rate at 52x is so miniscule that it seems incredible that this level of quality can be attained at such a high recording speed.
