Can the new LG 4163B do Bitsetting on DVD-RW/+RW ??

Postby asdzxc on Tue Jan 18, 2005 3:06 am

Hi all,

I have read that the new LG 4163B can do Bitsetting on DVD-R :)

Does anyone know if it can do Bitsetting on DVD-RW/+RW so I can play 'DVD RW' on my Panasonic E55 standalone DVD Recorder ??

thanks

Last time I checked, the DMR-E55 was able to read all DVD formats. I will run some tests on mine.

No, it does not do bitsetting on DVD+RW.

Bitsetting on DVD- is only available on a few drives (NuTech / BTC) and is considered a very individual interpretation of the DVD- specs....

MadBurner

thnx for that test... ;)

good to know my DMR-E55 can play DVD+RW without having to do Bitsetting :)

*Q .... do you know if the DMR-E55 can also play DVD-RW without Bitsetting ??

*Also, from your experience, as I just got my first PC-DVD recorder the other day, which format is better for recording Data from the PC(for backup) & which is better for recording Video from the PC to play back on my E55 - ie. DVD-R or DVD+R ??

thanks MadBurner

Your welcome!

While the Panasonic E55 will playback +R/RW, -R/RW media seems to be more consistant based on my experience.

I'm not an expert when it comes to the age-old question of "which format is better for this situation", perhaps Ian or Dolph could better assist you with that question, but I personally prefer +R for computer backups and -R for video playback on the E55.

I will run some tests on the -RW media tonight for you.

Take care,

I think the consensus at this stage is it doesn't really matter for data backup. Just try to get discs made by the reputable manufacturers. ;)
