cheated by sony? (regards to made in japan dvd+rw disc...)

I read that sony dvd+rw discs labelled "made in japan" are made by Ricoh Japan, so when I saw it in a store, I bought one piece.

however when I tried to read the media code in dvdidlepro, it tells me "Sony S11"

what's up? I feel cheated.

btw sony does have dvd+rw discs labelled "made in taiwan" in exactly the same packaging as the "japan" ones.

Ricohjpn codes are for media made in Taiwan by Ritek for Ricoh. Ricoh only makes the stampers, and Ritek does the production runs.

It is *VERY* rare to get Sony "made in Japan" media unless you live in Japan. I think you are luckier then you believe you are

Ricoh does make rewrite discs themselves in japan. I personally have a few cdrw made in japan by Ricoh. I heard that Maxell dvd+rw is made in japan by Ricoh as well.

What I can't confirm is whether "Sony S11" is indeed made in japan or Sony used the wrong label.

If Ricoh still makes any of their own stuff, it's HIGHLY unlikely we'll see any of it in North America, or even in Europe.
